In 1307, the city hospital, now a school, was built outside the city walls. The associated church has been documented since 1320.
The originally Gothic building was replaced in 1700 by the present-day baroque church.
Inside, the building presents itself as a jewel of the high baroque, with countless stucco work. The baroque interior completes the overall picture.

As early as 1320, a chapel was occupied in the city hospital, which was first referred to as the "church" in 1381. It was given its Baroque form in 1700/01 by a reconstruction initiated by Johann Martin Gumpp. Also detectable from 1320 is the adjacent former hospital cemetery. He served from 1509 to the mid-19th century as an urban cemetery.
