Gårdsjötorp is a revitalised olden-day farm and includes a large hikers' cabin that is open to visitors on weekends. The area around Gårdsjötorp has been settled since the early 17th century. Back then, the landscape here at Kilsbergen looked a lot different than it does today. At that time, the local district's many ironworks consumed a great deal of coal. As a result, the countryside up here in the hills was largely stripped of its trees. In the late 19th century, forestry came to shape the landscape instead. Large forest companies bought up the district's land and most of Kilsbergen's forest workers lived up here in hillside cottages until the mid-20th century. In contrast, up until 1955, those who lived here at Gårdsjötorp made their living from farming.
