History:

The Totzenbach family, a knightly family that named itself after its residence in Totzenbach, has been documented since 1147.

In 1971, the then municipality of Totzenbach acquired the ruined castle from the then owner. Its condition was so desolate that the idea of completely demolishing it was considered. In 1974, however, a new lord of the castle was found in the form of antique dealer Josef Figl, who had the dilapidated complex rebuilt by 1979. The work carried out included building up the collapsed ring wall, rebuilding the almost completely disappeared gate building, dredging the filled-in or silted-up moat and castle pond, and rebuilding the round corner tower, which only remained as a stump. During the construction work, the foundations of the medieval castle were also found in the castle courtyard.

In 2002, the Ruschitzka family purchased Totzenbach Castle, but sold it a year later to the Berger family, who still own it today. They use it as a residence and rent out some of the rooms for private events.
