The story of d'Olde Zwarver begins in 1842 along the IJssel. After an old mill burns down, a new one must be built urgently. At least, that's the story. There are no written sources available on this subject. The new mill remained in use until 1949, when it was sold. When the new owner Van Heel's Condensed Melk Maatschappij wants to demolish the mill due to expansion plans, Kampen revolts. This last Kamper mill must be preserved and so the dairy factory transfers the mill to the municipality of Kampen. This gives the mill a new location at Herkenhoofd, close to its own site.

In 1952 the mill was moved to its current location. It was transported across the road in one piece. Our landlords trembling showed us photos. An exciting story
