The Mud is an approximately 25 km long left and southern tributary of the Main. Its upper reaches are also called Mudau or Mudbach.
The Mud River rises in the eastern Odenwald west of Mudau in Gewann Hohenbusch at an altitude of around 500 m above sea level. NHN. The spring has been in use since 1890 and fills the water tank there. The upper reaches are often dry, so that the stream bed only has water from the water treading system in the Gewann Weller in Mudau.
