The Mission chapel is the oldest church in Villafranca Piemonte, it stands on the site of a chapel that already existed in 1037, when it was donated by the bishop of Turin Landolfo to the abbey of Santa Maria di Cavour who returned it in 1315 and has remained in the community. The name of Mission appears in documents of the thirteenth century as a toponym, perhaps pre-Roman, but of obscure meaning. In fact, we already have news of it in a document of 1037, but at the end of the fourteenth century it was rebuilt from scratch and enriched with valuable FRESCOES, both inside and outside The interior frescoes, dating back to around 1430, are largely attributed to the work of Aimone Duce (Dux Aymo). In 1702 the chapel was again modified, without respecting its original characters, and a bell tower was added. Considerable works of rehabilitation of the walls and then of restoration of the frescoes were carried out from 1998 to 2001.
