One of the strongest and best-preserved fortification towers in the Mark was built next to the stone gate in the mid-15th century. The name probably derives from the archeologically proven gate building from the 13th century, built from boulders. here.
The outer shell, decorated all around with a screw pattern made of sintered bricks, shows two circular and two coat of arms panels on the field and city side. The richly decorated crenellation and the wall cone with an iron eagle are original. Inside there are four more vaulted floors above a domed dungeon, which is now open as an entrance. These can be reached via a staircase that is as thick as the wall. Gunports, rifle and crossbow slots higher up, are characteristic of the late medieval principle of "vertical defence". Three floors were fireplace-heated, the middle one has a porch. The subsequent gate construction was demolished in 1839. Restored in 1886 as the first city museum, the tower was renovated again in 1993-94.
