The Banyuls pass is an interesting ascent due to its location that joins the Empordà with the French border, specifically the town that gives its name to the pass, Banyuls de la Marenda. The port is, together with the Perthus and the Portbou pass (coll de Balitrà), the only eastern passes in the incipient Pyrenees, since the Col d'Ares is located much further to the west.
Starting from the town of Espolla, the paved mountain pass follows the path of the Orlina, a tributary of the Muga towards the border. In the image we see the detour towards Banyuls.
The path of the port is very irregular, that is to say, it is the typical step in which a forest track has been paved and consists of constant ramps above 10% along with vertiginous descents.
The average of the port is only 2.5% and the length on this south face is close to 9 km.
As soon as we leave the town of La Espolla we have a hard ramp with a maximum percentage of 14%.

The climb on the Espolla side is a bit in stages and is less brutal than on the French side, with the famous "wall of Banyuls".

Route by road to the border crossing, controversial because the French state keeps it closed to cars. You can cross easily by bike or motorbike.
