The mountain is not far from Altbrandsleben and can be easily reached by foot and bike. The view over the Magdeburg Börde is fantastic. The Kniel has played a role in the mapping of the Harz through the so-called triangulation and sounding measurements. A trigonometric point was located at its summit until the 1960s.
