In 1760 the dam was piled up to the mainland, part of the dam were two bridges that were raised for the night. Previously, the island of Poel was only accessible by ferry to Fährdorf, the name Fährdorf was named after its function as the location of the ferryman. Once you arrive on the island of Poel you will find a picture book landscape with sandy beaches, cliffs, salt marshes and a bird paradise.
