The Pellworm lighthouse was completed in May 1907 after a year of construction.
The height of the tower is 41.5 meters.
It stands on a pile foundation consisting of 127 oak piles. The piles were driven into the ground to a depth of 14 meters in order to distribute the enormous weight of 130 tons of cast steel.
From the beginning the lighthouse was operated electrically. When it was put into operation in 1907, there were two 1-cylinder 16 HP diesel engines with huge flywheels on the first deck in the entrance area, which charged 100 batteries during the day, which then supplied the light sources with power at night.
The beacon is still of great importance today, despite modern navigation aids such as GPS and radar. The main light of the Pellworm lighthouse, a 3-color guide or sector light, shines 42 kilometers to the southwest into the fairway of the Norderhever.
On the way up to the viewing platform you pass furnished decks that are still used today by craftsmen, technicians or the painters etc. who maintain and maintain the tower.
A very special experience is the view from a height of 37m from the platform of the Pellworm lighthouse (12 decks, 158 steps).
