Napoleon's first night on Elba was not the most pleasant: the rooms prepared for him were rather mediocre and the noise of the celebrations in the city meant that Napoleon immediately set out the next day in search of a quieter residence that at least did some honor to his name. Napoleon roamed the entire city of Cosmopoli (Cosimo de'Medici gave Portoferraio this name) and found the perfect residence for him: the Palazzina dei Mulini. The small villa is located on the site where four windmills previously stood (hence the name), between the fortresses Forte Falcone and Forte della Stella, on the cliff that looks towards the sea and the mainland.
