    Interesting experiment from the university.

The University of Basel is investigating the consequences of climate change for Central European forests in the area of the Baselbiet municipality of Hölstein.
Resources such as wood, oxygen and clean water are created in forests. At the same time, the forest stores large amounts of carbon and provides habitat for many plants and animals.
How our forests react to climate change is therefore an urgent ecological question. The latest forecasts suggest that summer precipitation in western Switzerland will decrease by up to a fifth by 2085.
      Simulate cessation of precipitation
In order to better research how the increasing drought is affecting the Swiss forests, the University of Basel has started a multi-year forest experiment in the Basel-Landschaft municipality of Hölstein.
In the "Schoren" area, the researchers want to simulate the drought to be expected in a mature Swiss mixed forest over a period of 20 years.
To do this, they erected a roof construction on half of the one-hectare test area that catches around 50% of the rainwater for the trees. The other half, separated by a ditch, serves as a control area.
