Pilgrimage Chapel Steinlohe

Before 1805 there was a chapel in Steinlohe in which an image of the Sorrowful Mother of God was venerated. This picture was originally in the possession of the Count's family in Muttersdorf. Every year, many people from Bavaria and Bohemia made the pilgrimage to see this picture in Steinlohe. When secularization put an end to this pilgrimage in 1802, a farmer named Huber saved the picture and kept it in his house. In 1812 he built a wooden chapel in which the image was venerated. After this chapel became dilapidated, the image of the Virgin Mary was temporarily kept in the Tiefenbach church. In 1845 a small church was built in Steinlohe and the picture was brought back into it. Since many people made a pilgrimage to this miraculous image, the church was expanded in 1911.
