An incredibly beautiful, small port with a typical ambience.

Niendorf Harbor offers much more than dreamy fishing boats and gleaming yachts. In addition to a shipyard, various dining options, and excursion boats
into the Bay of Lübeck, you will also find our tourist information center in the middle of the building
      at the harbor entrance.

For a Baltic Sea town, a harbor is a natural part of its appearance.
In Timmendorfer Strand, it is located in the Niendorf district.
Although the harbor is one of the smallest on the German Baltic coast,
it is also one of the most beautiful and therefore worth a visit.

The estuary of the Aalbek River into the Baltic Sea attracted fishermen long ago
to the region, who pulled their boats onto the beach here and laid out their fishing nets
to dry. As tourism increased significantly at the beginning of the 20th century, it was decided to build a harbor to make the place even more attractive to visitors.
In 1920, work began on the artificial widening of the Aalbeck River to create the harbor basin. Inflation in the following years caused costs to rise sharply, resulting in not all planned measures being implemented. Until the 1970s, the harbor basin could only be crossed by boat because the construction of a bridge had not been completed.
Since the end of World War II, Niendorf Harbor has been repeatedly expanded and renovated. In 1948, a harbor basin for the Niendorf Yacht Club was added, and in the 1990s, one for the Niendorf/Ostsee Sailing Club, complete with its own clubhouse, was added.
In the meantime, the inner harbor basin has been enlarged several times.
In 2005, a major harbor renovation took place.

While initially primarily used for fishing boats, today it is primarily used for pleasure boats. Numerous restaurants make the harbor a popular destination for tourists, who occasionally wander into the harbor pottery and the studio of painter Reinhold Liebe.
