View of Neustadt am Rennsteig

Neustadt lies at 805 meters above sea level on a plateau on the Rennsteig. It is one of the highest places in Thuringia. The slopes to the Schleusetal slope to the southwest, the Wohlrose catchment area to the northeast. Mountains in the area are the 817 meter high Große Burgberg and the 816 meter high Edelmannskopf.
The Rennsteig as a high-altitude hiking trail leads through the village over a length of one kilometer. Neustadt is one of the few places through which the Rennsteig runs completely; it lies approximately in the middle of the 169 km long high-altitude hiking trail (Wikipedia).
