The mighty church of St. Blasius on the village square De Bläck in Kappeshamm is somewhat oversized. She looks older than she is. The main entrance to the church is not built towards the village square, but faces away from the square.

Church of St. Blaise
The church, built in the neo-Romanesque style, was inaugurated in 1910. It was built by Josef Kleesattel. The previous church, designed by Adolph von Vagedes, stood for just 85 years, then it became too small and was demolished in 1910. You probably didn't like her simple classicist style either.

It is believed that around 1206 a Romanesque basilica stood on the same site. Written entries in the tax register of the Archdiocese of Cologne (liber valoris) from 1308 are certain.

During the Second World War, St. Blasius was severely damaged, but church services were able to take place again in 1947 after it was restored.
