On Tuesday morning, October 17, 1962, shortly after eleven o'clock, two E 84 jet fighters drilled into the Hohe Egge, which at 440 meters is the highest point of the Süntel. The two pilots of the Belgian machines were shredded. They had taken part in an army exercise and were on their way back to their base in Kleinebrogel, Belgium. It is still a mystery how the accident happened, whether the two fighters collided in the air before the crash or crashed into the Süntel due to poor visibility.

At this point, on October 16, 1962, two pilots of the Belgian Air Force died when their aircraft crashed.
A memorial stone commemorates this accident.

I think it's good when such memorial stones are put up out of respect for those who lost their lives.

Between the Süntelturm and the former NATO base on the Hohe Egge slope, this memorial stone commemorates the Belgian pilots who died in 1962
