The Natura Trail leads through the "Südlicher Priwall" nature reserve. The Priwall is located directly at the mouth of the Trave in the Baltic Sea as the remains of a spit hook, formed from deposits of fine sand and gravel that were transported here by the sea currents from the steep banks of the Bay of Lübeck. The southern part of the Priwall, together with an approximately 100 meter wide shallow water area in the Pötenitzer Wiek, forms the 149 hectare nature reserve.

The eastern part of the area is characterized by dry grassland, replaced by sparse grassy areas with rare species, which are later overgrown by sea buckthorn bushes typical of the Baltic Sea. The dry habitats were created through traditional management and can only be preserved today as a habitat for light and warmth-loving plants and animals through targeted maintenance measures.
