As one of the oldest documented places in all of Franconia (Oberhaid was 1225 years old in 2013), Oberhaid with its districts of Unterhaid, Staffelbach, Johannishof and Sandhof is located in the heart of the Franconian river paradise, where the Main and Regnitz meet and the border between Bier and wine francs merge seamlessly into one another. The wonderful location in the Hassberge Nature Park offers a wide range of opportunities for leisure activities close to nature and invites you to cycle and hike on many paths.

Two breweries, several beer cellars and a wide variety of restaurants offer a wide range of offerings that are attractively complemented by local winegrowers in the pub, in the Heckenwirtschaft or at Hofschoppen or Bremser festivals.

The historic town hall in Unterhaid is just as worth seeing as the already nationally known "Kellergasse Unterhaid", which was renovated from 2008 to 2014, and the unique cemetery chapel "Mater Dolorosa". The parish church of St. Bartholomew in Oberhaid is the destination of the annual “Oberhaider pilgrimage”.

Located right outside the gates of the city of Bamberg, Oberhaid is excellently connected to regional connections via the adjacent A70 motorway and its own train station.

This small chapel is dedicated to the Mother of God under the title "Mater Dolorosa"; we usually refer to this title for Mary in German as the "Sorrowful" or "Sorrowful Mother of God". In the depictions that correspond to this, Mary is usually surrounded by seven swords that stab her in the body or heart. The biblical origin of this motif can be found in the Gospel of Luke, when Simeon prophesies to Mary in the temple about her son Jesus Christ:
+ "Behold, this child is destined for the fall and rising of many in Israel. And he will be a sign that will be spoken against, and a sword will pierce through your soul..." (Luke 2:34-35)
