This chapel is dedicated to Saint Nicholas of Flüe (after the town of Flüeli in the Swiss canton of Obwalden), but he is far better known by the simple name "Brother Klaus," which he himself used. He lived from 1417 to 1487 and is venerated as a hermit, mystic, and peacemaker. Brother Klaus's feast day in the calendar of saints is March 21 (the day of his death). He is the national saint of Switzerland.
