East of the Pindus Mountains, mighty sandstone cliffs rise to a height of approximately 500 meters. 24 monasteries were once built on their summits. Monks and nuns still live in six of them today. The Meteora monasteries have served as film sets for numerous spectacular films.
One of the most famous rocks is the one with the Agia Triada monastery, because it was used - despite resistance from the monks - as a filming location for the successful James Bond film "For Your Eyes Only" from 1981. The monastery, built in the 15th century on a 560 m high, bizarre rock formation - one of a total of four monasteries that can be visited from the inside - is not only worth a visit because of its distinctive architecture, but from here you also have a breathtaking view of the valley and the surrounding landscape around Meteora.
