The Schwarzenberg Tower survived the Second World War with minor damage. It was completely restored in 1949. Since the 1950s, various operators have used the location's height (a total of 417 meters above sea level) for radio purposes.

On August 1, 1996, the popular Saarbrücken tourist destination was added to the Saarland's list of monuments.

241 steps lead to the top viewing platform of the tower. The 46-meter-high Schwarzenberg Tower offers visitors - even without binoculars - a fantastic view of the surrounding area from the highest point of the Saarbrücken city forest.

The foundation stone was laid on June 27, 1930. The building was inaugurated on October 12, 1930 after a construction phase lasting around nine weeks and caused a sensation at the time.

      History

The St. Johann Beautification Association commissioned city architect H. Leiber to design a square tower. The plans had to meet two requirements: the floors could not be connected by a spiral staircase and the top floor was to serve as a meeting room. Nature lovers were concerned about the peace and quiet of the city forest and tried to prevent the construction. However, since the idyll was not disturbed to the extent feared, critical voices quickly died down.
