The parish church of St. Johannes Baptist is also called the Sauerland Cathedral. A first predecessor building was erected in the 9th century, this was expanded in the 11th century by the 2nd building, rebuilt around 1230 as the 3rd building in the style of a three-conch complex. Today's Gothic hall church was built in the second half of the 14th century. The tower dates from around 1230, was raised in the 14th century and has been crowned by a baroque onion since the baroque period. It is considered the symbol of the city.
