Wolframs-Eschenbach was called until 1917 Obereschenbach and is located near the Franconian Lake District on the Castle Road. It is first mentioned as Eschelebach in 1057/75. The medieval town is surrounded by a fully preserved fortification / city wall, around which a beautiful cycling and hiking trail leads. The entrances are two large gate towers. There is also the Powder Tower and the Hungerturm on the south side without gates.

Wolfram von Eschenbach,Wolfram von Eschenbach (* around 1160/80 in Franconia, probably in Obereschenbach (today Wolframs-Eschenbach); † around/after 1220) was a German-speaking poet. Middle High German literature owes him several epic works. He also wrote lyrical poems as a minstrel. His most famous work is the verse novel Parzival.Wolfram was the most influential German-language poet of the Middle Ages. Wolfram's Titurel fragment had an enormous after-effect in the late Middle Ages: the strophic form invented for it (the so-called Titurel strophe) was adapted by many poets. The fragment itself was expanded into an extensive novel by Albrecht in the second half of the 13th century. This Younger Titurel was considered Wolfram's own work in the late Middle Ages and established his fame as the most important of all knightly poets. Parzival is the only poetry with rhyming couplets that was printed several times after 1470. The material of Parzival provided Richard Wagner with the main source for creating the libretto of his opera Parsifal. Wolfram himself appears as a character in Wagner's opera Tannhäuser.Further information: de.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wolfram_von_EschenbachLiterature: Wolframs-Eschenbach: The Teutonic Order builds a city; with numerous color and b/w illustrations
