Ship mills are said to have been operating in Ginsheim even before 1704. They worked there on the Rhine for several centuries. In total, up to 21 of the small grain processing companies were anchored on the water at the same time. The ship mills then had to give way because of the new and modern industry and the increasing shipping traffic.
