The new Grgos Cave, 130 meters long and with three halls, was discovered in 2007 and arranged for visitors. Visiting the cave is possible from 12 noon to 5 pm every full hour, all days except Monday. The cave is one of the points of visit to the Samobor Mountaineering Bypass and the Otruševec Educational Trail.
It is one of the most famous natural sights of Samobor - Grgos Cave, located at the entrance to Otruševec and is one of those tourist locations that are among the most famous Samobor tourist attractions. It is one of the most beautiful caves in northwestern Croatia, and due to its rich cave jewelry, it has been declared a protected geomorphological monument of nature.
Discovered by accident, in 1973 Josip Grgos set out in search of the raw material for extinguishing lime and stumbled upon an underground treasure - a 30-meter-long, 19-meter-deep, sigma-rich cave with two halls. Grgos, later his son, started arranging the cave to be as accessible as possible to a wider circle of curious people, and after electrification, the cave became one of the unavoidable points to visit when coming to Samobor.
In the meantime, a new 130-meter cave with three new halls was discovered in 2007, and 46-meter-long corridors and paths are currently being arranged. Also, the Cave near Goli vrh was recently discovered not far away, whose entrance was opened during the arrangement of the road to Otruševac. It is small in size, but it hints that more spectacular surprises from the underground may await us in the future.
Stalagmites in Grgos Cave indicate that the cave is relatively old, while thin stalactites from the cave ceiling show that it is still active in creating new shapes. You just have to be patient for about ten thousand years, and time can be shortened in the nearby inn Kod špilje where you can arrange a guide for a tour of the cave.
