The moated castle Neuroth in Bilkheim is located with the adjoining estate, framed by tall trees, on the outskirts of the village. The baroque palace was built by the Brambachers in the 17th century and represents centuries of aristocratic history and the associated history of the village.
Although it is privately owned, it is a feast for the eyes of every walker. The Nassau Annals report that the property was acquired by Wilhelm Reinhard von Walderdorff in 1687 for 13,000 Rhenish guilders. However, some sources tell of a change of ownership as early as 1682. The moated castle is the only one of its kind in the Westerwald district and for a long time served as the widow's seat of the Counts Walderdorff, who resided in the main castle in Molsberg, which is within sight.
