Parish Church of St. James the Elder Toad

The late baroque church was once a focal point for many pilgrims who came from Eastern Europe to pilgrimage sites in Western and South-Western Europe; Among other things, of course, also for pilgrims who were on their way to the Camino de Santiago in Spain. So she was also given to St. Dedicated to James the Elder. It is a listed building.
The construction of today's Unken church is due to a devastating fire: When the Unken church festival was celebrated on September 5, 1756 and the church innkeeper celebrated until late at night, a fire broke out in the stables of the inn at midnight. A six-year-old boy was killed, the inn and the church burned down. Four days later, Prince Archbishop Sigmund von Schrattenbach came to the village on his way back from a confirmation trip and inspected the damage. The church ruins were provisionally prepared, supported by wooden pillars and provided with an emergency roof made of boards. When the church was rebuilt, the usual eastward orientation was disregarded and the chancel on the west side and the tower on the east side of the nave were built.
