San Pantaleone Sanctuary

Located in the hamlet of Borgo di Montoro.

The Lombard castle, located about 320 m a.s.l. in the hamlet of Borgo di Montoro, near the Sanctuary of San Pantaleone, it is one of the most important and well-known historical and archaeological monuments in the Montoro area. Unfortunately, only the ruins of a corner tower and some walls surrounding the central courtyard remain of it, sufficient, however, to reveal all the majesty and beauty that characterized the building. Named for the first time in a document of 1022, but existing centuries earlier, it was built to protect the borders between the Principality of Benevento and that of Salerno, it is, in fact, perfectly in visual axis with the castle of the nearby city of San Severino .
