Duck bunks (from Dutch kooi “cage”) have been documented in the Netherlands as early as the 13th century. In the 17th century they became more widespread in England and also occasionally in the Münsterland. In the following century, numerous bird beds were set up on the North Frisian Islands, some of which are still used for duck fishing on the island of Föhr.
