This private nature park in Jeersdorf has a barbecue area with two old houses, a small lake and a mini heather. Everything freely accessible and usable.

Jeersdorf – It is a gem in a very well-kept deep sleep: the Heick Park in Jeersdorf. The days when large groups barbecued there and others celebrated wildly are now over. Probably irrevocably – even if some Jeersdorf residents would like to see more activities there again. Peter Ehlen is a trustee in the sense of Gerhart Heick (1919-2009), to whom the town has this park to thank. Park, Ehlen explains, is not the right term. “It is a natural plot of land.” And the rumor that keeps cropping up that the gates are being closed there is absolutely not true.
The landscape garden with the heathland, the pond and the striking buildings such as the Spieker was created in 1986. The Hamburg entrepreneur Heick lived in Jeersdorf for 40 years and was very closely connected to the town. “Back then, we harvested the heather in the Lüneburg Heath,” Ehlen looks back.

Heick Park begins directly at the barbecue hut, to the right of which a rustic half-timbered granary catches the eye. From there, a path leads around a body of water covered with water lilies - past crooked juniper trees and a purple-shimmering heathland. "This used to be a small garbage dump here," says Steppat. The fact that it would one day become "the flagship of Jeersdorf," as he calls the park, is thanks to its namesake, the Hamburg-based entrepreneur Gerhart Heick (1919-2009). He had once noticed the town through his hunting hobby - and had taken it to his heart ever since. "So much so that he even lived in Jeersdorf for around 40 years," reports Steppat. "And he left us a lot." Not only does the park bear Heick's signature, the nearby oak avenue with its namesake trees would certainly have a much less of an impact on the townscape today.
