Hiking Highlight
The mills are worth seeing, because they are well preserved. In one of the mills is a cafe and a shop with nice items to give away. The mills also have a boat rental, so you can see the mills from the canal.

Among the most famous attractions in Greetsiel count the twin mills. The Dutch windmills are from the years 1856 (green mill) and 1706 (red mill).

It is nice to see that even earlier generations wanted to and could do something with wind power. Long before there were today's wind turbines for power generation, our ancestors used wind power to grind grain.

There are always considerations to give the second mill wings again - not yet implemented.

From afar you can see, when approaching Greetsiel, the two mills. Since one speaks of the Greetsieler twin mills, one may assume at the first moment that both were built at the same time, which is however not correct. The eastern, to the outskirts located mill was built in 1921, the western mill as early as 1856. Both mills had predecessors that were destroyed either by storms or fires.
