    Minster "Our Lady", Zwiefalten
The late baroque Zwiefalten Minster is certainly one of the best preserved cultural assets north of the Alps. Our tours of the Minster give you insights from the founding period of the Zwiefalten Monastery, through the construction of the old Minster, the new building of the current Minster, to the secularization in 1803, when the monastery was dissolved. Of course, we would also like to introduce you to the Minster as a place where the Catholic faith is still actively practiced and lived today. After all, the Minster serves as the parish church of the Catholic community of Zwiefalten.
The Minster is considered a masterpiece of the South German late Baroque/Rococo. Construction began in 1739 by the brothers Joseph and Martin Schneider from Baach, but was continued from 1740 by the famous Munich architect Johann Michael Fischer. The consecration of the altars took place in 1765, and the cathedral was completed in 1785. The church's rich furnishings include a late Gothic image of grace from 1430 as well as baroque ceiling frescoes and an altarpiece by Franz Joseph Spiegler, frescoes by Andreas Meinrad von Ow, stucco work by Johann Michael Feichtmayr, as well as sculptures and choir stalls by Johann Joseph Christian.
The choir room with the artistically significant choir stalls can only be visited as part of a guided tour of the cathedral.

The former Benedictine monastery and cathedral of Zwiefalten was once home to the lavish art of the late Baroque and Rococo periods. Today, the monastery houses the Center for Psychiatry.

        Beautiful baroque church.
Next door is the good Zwiefalter Klosterbräu!
