Very nicely located and successful lookout tower. From my point of view, enhances the fortunately sensitive tourist offer in the Pfrunger Ried.

The Bandwaldturm must have climbed at least 1x. From up there you have a very good view over almost the entire RIED. On the tower we will explain on the basis of diagrams exactly in which direction you look and what you see.👍

A face mask is currently mandatory on the tower, which is also observed. With the temperatures, everyone has a scarf or scarf with them anyway, which can be pulled up if necessary

Since 2016, the Bannwaldturm on the Ostrach district has offered a 360° panorama and insights into the unique moor landscape of the Pfrunger-Burgweiler-Ried. The tower stands at the intersection of the Bannwald "Tisch", "Oberen Schnöden" and "Unteren Schnöden". To the east, a newly created bog stream meanders through renatured areas where robust Galloway cattle graze at times and which serve as breeding and resting areas for many birds. The 441-hectare protected forest extends to the west.

Several signposted hiking trails and a reed education trail with information boards lead through the area, which the locals call Pfrunger Ried. But the view from the Bannwald Tower, which got its name because the surrounding forest is designated as Bannwald for historical reasons, is also very nice. And best of all: The Bannwaldturm can be climbed at any time free of charge. However, it can only be reached by hiking, the easiest way is from the parking lot near the country road from Ostrach in the direction of Laubach. The way to the tower is signposted.

The imposing Bannwald Tower in modern timber construction blends in architecturally with the existing Ried buildings. The 34-metre-high wooden tower (about 120 cubic meters of spruce/fir) rests on a three-metre-high concrete base, the façade of which is a plank construction made of larch (about 15 cubic metres). The construction costs totaled 610,000 euros.
