If you are lucky or if you wait a few minutes, you can see one or the other rushing across the canal at eye level with the trains.

The old Genin Nord railway bridge spans the Elbe-Lübeck Canal here.
Hikers and cyclists can also cross the canal here right next to the railway tracks. The entrances and exits to the bridge are shown as stairs on the Komoot map. You can also ride up and down or push with a normal bike. The photos prove it.
When the LBE was incorporated into the Reichsbahn on January 1, 1938, one of the largest private railways in northern Germany was lost; 86 years of an eventful history.
It is undisputed that the LBE was of outstanding importance for the Hamburg / Lübeck economic area.
In October 1851, the “Lübeck-Büchener Eisenbahn” (LBE) began operating on the Lübeck - Büchen route with six locomotives. This marked the start of one of the most innovative private railways, not just in Northern Germany.

Historically, this railway bridge only became necessary when the main station was relocated from the Holstentor to its current location around 1905. On the south side you can still see the ramp of a railway that led to the municipal works in the industrial area.
