Bergmannsklause Restaurant and Garden

We didn't stop there - but we did take a look at the small zoo, which is well worth seeing. Here you can see birds and small animals of all kinds, especially for smaller children a nice incentive for the long climb from Steinach up to the Bergmannsklause.

A piece of adventure gastronomy ...
In 1923 a tunnel was created at the current Bergmannsklause site. However, when they had not found anything after 70m, the project was discontinued.
At that time, the Griffelhütte operated on the Tierberg was supplied with raw slate stones from the opencast mine above the Bergmannsklause by means of a "Huntsbahn". With the leakage of usable raw slate for stylus production from this opencast mine, the search for a further deposit took place in the aforementioned iron gallery, which was remembered to have been excavated in the blue slate. Thus, in 1937, the underground slate extraction according to the Rhenish mining method began for the first time.
In the restaurant today you can choose your fish alive and then let it taste ... a pleasure! There is great cuisine here (with and without fish)
For the little ones there are animal enclosures with rabbits, guinea pigs, chickens, geese and peacocks ... just great!
