History of the Greitemann StoneThe legend goes: Two carters once lived in the village of Menkhausen near Dorlar. One was called Dorlsmann, the other Greitmann. They had become enemies because of an oak forest, but after a while they made up again. One day they set out to take charcoal to Cologne on their horse-drawn carts. They took a break at the Auergang and talked to each other. The conversation soon turned to the forest property again. They became so agitated that she became violent and Dorlsmann killed his traveling companion Greitemann. Dorlsmann took the body with him to Cologne to throw it into the Rhine, but he didn't get around to it because he always felt like he was being watched. So he had to take the murdered man with him on the return journey and finally buried him in the place where the Greitemann Stone stands today. During a hunt, a dog is said to have discovered the body.
