The market square in Biedenkopf, also known as the Lower Market or New Market, is the historical and social center of the town of Biedenkopf.
The market square was created as part of the city's development in the 14th century, when the markets were relocated from their original location in front of the church and the old town hall to the suburb in front of the Marienpforte (St. Mary's Gate). This marked the founding of the "New Town" with its own market square around 1335.
In the center of the square stands the district war memorial, erected in 1904, which commemorates the fallen of the wars of 1866 and 1870/71. It is made of diabase stone and decorated with a bronze group of figures.
