Location: Royal Burgh Of Arbroath, Aberdeenshire, Scotland, United Kingdom
This attractive village is presumed to be named after Aberelliot or Aber-Eliot, both meaning the mouth of the Elliot, the small river that flows through the village. Although the Elliot family name is usually associated with the Scottish Borders, they originated in this place. As loyal supporters of Robert the Bruce, he asked the family to relocate south and so help defend his realm against the English.
