The site where the Church of St. George is located has been inhabited since ancient times. Siebenach Castle may have been located here, but it was destroyed in 1083. The church may have emerged from the castle chapel. The church had been a pilgrimage destination since 1666, when a brotherhood was established. The Abbot of Steingaden had a miraculous image of the Virgin Mary erected to introduce the brotherhood.

The church was rebuilt in 1718/19. The square tower substructure was retained in this new building. This substructure dates from the 15th century and is the only remaining part of the previous building.
