The Old Town Hall of Wiesbaden, built between 1608 and 1610, is the oldest building in the city.
The Old Town Hall was originally built in the Renaissance style by Antonius Schöffer according to the plans of Valerius Bausendorff with a solid ground floor and a very richly colored half-timbered upper floor with bay windows and high curved gables. The two-flight staircase had no railing. The residents of the city worked for seven weeks without pay to build it. To the right of the entrance was the pillory with chains and collar irons. On market days, the delinquents had to stand here and were exposed to the mockery of their fellow citizens.
Today the building serves as the registry office of the city of Wiesbaden. In the vaulted cellar, which can be reached via a staircase in the middle under the two-flight open staircase, there is a wine bar.
In front of the open staircase, between the city palace and the Old Town Hall, stands the market fountain, built in 1753, whose central column is crowned by the Nassau lion with a shield.

In the large photo you can see the town hall, the small photo shows the inner-city registry office. Together with the state parliament and the market church, this square forms the heart of the city.

Since 1946, the Hessian State Parliament has been located in the former city palace (built between 1837 and 1841), the residence of the Dukes of Nassau, on Schlossplatz. The "New Town Hall" was built between 1883 and 1887 and is also located on Schlossplatz. This is where the mayor's office is located.
