The Trinity Church is the Catholic church in Tangermünde, a town in the Stendal district in Saxony-Anhalt. The church, named after the Trinity, is the seat of the parish of St. Elisabeth in the deanery of Stendal in the diocese of Magdeburg. It is located on Arneburger Straße and is designated as a monument by the State Office for the Preservation of Monuments and Archeology in Saxony-Anhalt.
In 1538 the Reformation found its way into Tangermünde, introduced by Elector Joachim II and the court and district judge Hieronymus Staude. As a result, the St. Stephen's Church Evangelical Lutheran and the Dominican monastery were dissolved.
In 1888 or 1891, the Tangermünde Catholics acquired the St. Elisabeth chapel on the Zollensteig, which had previously been used as a salt store and as a storage room for the Tangermünde garrison. After some repair work, they held Catholic services in it from 1891 to 1926. This church was rededicated on October 25, 1891. In 1910 a parish vicarage was set up in Tangermünde, and on June 14, 1919 it was elevated to the status of a parish.
On April 21, 1924, Caspar Klein, bishop of the diocese of Paderborn, to which Tangermünde belonged at the time, laid the foundation stone for the Trinity Church. On May 9, 1926, Paderborn Cathedral Provost Johannes Linneborn gave her Benedict. The church consecration did not take place until September 1, 1929.
The community center was built in 1953/54, and in 1958 the church got three bells. In 1979 the high altar and pulpit were removed, and in 1986 a new altar was consecrated. In 1991 the roof was renewed, in 1992 the heating. On July 8, 1994, the diocese of Magdeburg was established, to which the church has belonged ever since.
On July 1, 2006, the parish of Tangermünde and the curatieen Klietz and Steckelsdorf were merged to form the community association Tangermünde-Klietz-Steckelsdorf, which, in addition to the Trinity Church, also included the churches of the Queen of the Rosary in Klietz, the castle chapel in Sandau, the now profaned church in Schönhausen and the St.-Josefs-Kirche in Steckelsdorf belonged. In 2010 the church in Klietz was also closed. On November 28, 2010, today's parish of St. Elisabeth was created from the parish association.
