The Austro-Hungarian military cable car and lookout point are located on Šupca, along the road to the Soča Valley, not far from the top of Vršič. The delivery cable car was built at the end of 1915. It had a starting station in Kranjska Gora, from there it climbed to Vršič, then descended into the Trenta valley and ran to Črča. In the autumn of 1917, construction began on an extension to the present Kal - Koritnica. The concrete blocks on Šupca are the remains of this cable car. The cable car served as an additional transport route for the supply of units of the Austro-Hungarian 10th Army in the Krn Mountains. In the winter, when there was a lot of snow and traffic on the new Vršica road was not possible, this was the only way. When, in the spring of 1916, a large avalanche blocked the road and the military cable car, they had to be moved towards the eastern part. The cable car was divided into sections that were 2.5 km long. Each section had an engine with 20 to 35 horsepower, and the height difference of each section could be a maximum of 350 meters. The traction and at the same time load-bearing steel cable had a speed of 1.5 m / s. Trolleys capable of carrying up to 100 kg of cargo were gripped by an automatic gripper. Under normal circumstances, the daily capacity of the cableway at 16 hours of operation was 250 tonnes. The military cable car did not operate in high winds. On the south side of Vršič, where the section is steeper, they had to use a different type of cable car with less capacity. In addition to winter supplies, the Vršiška cable car played a very important role in the delivery of military material for the 12th Battle of the Isonzo in October 1917. In this battle, units of the German 14th Army broke through the front and pushed the Italians onto the Blue River.
