LEONHARD'S CHAPEL

St. Leonhard was the patron saint of prisoners, the sick, the farmers and especially the horses.

The St. Leonhard Chapel was built over a spring that was said to have healing properties. It became a place of pilgrimage for farmers and horses. Horseshoes were brought along for sick horses to ask for their healing. The fact that the horses came from afar proves that older people speak of a Leonhardspfad, which leads over Wald-Michelbach to Worms. After the Reformation moved into the Odenwald district, the chapel fell into disrepair. Stones were used for the surrounding houses. Stones were also removed for the extension of the Beerfeld cemetery. In addition, Count zu Erbach had the masonry for the windows of the chapel in Steinbach and building blocks and columns in the cemetery chapel in Steinbach installed. So only a few remains of the wall are left.
