Bergenhusen was first mentioned in 1304 as Beveringhusen (Biberhausen). Today there are no beavers here, but one of the largest colonies of storks in Europe. Up to 22 pairs breed in the "Village of Storks".

Bergenhusen (Danish Berringhuse) is a municipality in the district of Schleswig-Flensburg in Schleswig-Holstein. The community is known nationwide as a stork village, as one of the largest white stork colonies in Europe is located here. Bergenhusen lies on the Geestrücken Stapelholm in the Eider-Treene-Sorge lowlands. Blumental, Brunsholm, Lüttensee and Osterfeld are in the municipal area. Bergenhusen was first mentioned in 1304 as Beveringhusen (from Bewer, i.e. beaver), but archaeological finds show that Bergenhusen was also inhabited 6000 years ago, at least since the Neolithic period. From December 1, 1905 to 1943, Bergenhusen had a railway connection through the Schleswig State Railway Station – Friedrichstadt District Railway Station of the Schleswig District Railway. Passenger traffic was discontinued on February 1, 1934, and freight traffic ended in July 1943 at the latest, as the track was dismantled on August 2, 1943.
