The history of Uhyst Castle on the Spree begins in the 13th century. At that time, the small village known as a craft settlement was first mentioned in a document. It is not entirely clear when exactly the first buildings that preceded today's palace were erected. Today's building was erected between 1739 and 1742 by Friedrich Caspar Graf von Gersdorff. He had previously had the old manor removed to make room for a more modern building. In the decades that followed, the New Uhyst Palace was regularly used as a residence by the count family. During these years, the originally baroque building was transformed into a stately mansion in the neo-classical style.

When the SS occupied the site during World War II, the owners of the New Uhyst Palace were driven out and the National Socialists set up a base here. After the war, the owners of the castle are finally expropriated; Land falls to a number of small farmers. After German reunification, the building was able to pass back into private hands, which endeavored to restore the New Uhyst Palace to its former glory. Today there is a beautiful baroque garden and an English landscape park.
