The Walburgis Chapel greets you from afar, high above the Weschnitz Valley. Many holy Christians from all over the Weschnitz Valley and the Bergstrasse make a pilgrimage to St. Walburga, the patron saint of the Weschnitz Valley, on May 1 for a solemn worship service.

"The Walburga keeps the bad weather off," my grandma used to say, and for Hiltersklingen it's mostly true. It is more on the mountain than Walburga, but the chapel is still worth a detour. Nice building with a great view to the west.

A chapel. From here, the Niebelungensteig goes steeply downhill. In the curves partly steps, not for beginners.

It is the highest church in the Odenwald and lies east above the Fürth district of Weschnitz.
The Walburgis Chapel is a chapel to the east above the Fürth district of Weschnitz, which is dedicated to the Holy Walburga.
It is believed that it was built on the site of a pre-Christian sanctuary. A first building can be documented from 1671. A new chapel was built in 1815. In the years 1935 to 1937, the previous simple building was expanded to include a slightly larger hall, which was placed in front of the original chapel. A special feature is the 17th century Walburga statue, which is located in the chapel. Behind the chapel is a square with a stone altar, which is used for open-air pilgrimage services.
An important long-distance hiking trail leads past the Walburgiskapelle, the Nibelungensteig.
You have a unique view from the Walburgis chapel
