The rolling hills and the picturesque villages with their pan roofs of the Mendrisiotto are vaguely reminiscent of Tuscany. In the midst of this wonderful landscape, Meride is certainly the friendliest, most untouched and best preserved village with its compact and austere medieval structure and the alleys that branch off from the narrow main road.

“There are numerous traces of a glorious past in Meride. Along the only main street you will find a harmonious interplay of houses, some of them ancient, of regional and national importance. Elegant archways from the 16th century, spacious inner courtyards and airy log corridors, supported by columns made of Saltrio stone, offer a picture of great value and dignity.
