    The prevailing interpretation considers dolmens as a megalithic tombs or burial chambers, consisting of stones and slabs embedded in the ground with a monolithic roofing slab. The Dolmens of Salento could date back to the V and IV millennium BC. The uncut local limestone blocks (called megaliths) rest on the ground and support a large slab which, placed horizontally, acts as a roof. Discovered by Luigi Maggiulli in 1867, in a land full of rocky outcrops, in the territory of Minervino, this dolmen was carefully examined and described by Cosimo De Giorgi in 1879. The dolmen rests on an outcropping rock bank with an irregular quadrangular covering slab supported by eight columns of stacked stones, and crossed by a hole with a diameter of about 20 centimeters.
